Helping Children Through Give Kids A Smile
The American Dental Association began the Give Kids A Smile program in 2003 as a way for dentists to join with others in the community to provide dental services to underserved children. The program initially began as a one-day event in February, but has since grown to local and national events year-round. Dentists and other team members volunteer their time, and services, to provide screenings, treatments and education to children throughout the United States.
Recently our very own Drs. Lindsey Vore and Brian Andersen have gone out into the Cedar Valley community to speak about careers in dentistry and the importance of dental hygiene.
Dr. Vore visited Community United Child Care Center at Valley Park to talk about dental hygiene. She spoke in front of roughly 150 kids and staff at the daycare about the importance of brushing, flossing and visiting your dentist 2x a year. Dr. Vore also handed out a goody bag to each kid that contained flossers, timers, toothbrush, toothpaste, and new patient free exam & xrays!
Dr. Andersen visited West High School in Waterloo to discuss the careers that are associated with dentistry. Dr. Andersen spoke with roughly 100 11th graders about dentistry, careers, and experiences. Students then had the chance to ask Dr. Andersen questions about dentistry and become more aware of how dental health affects overall health and wellness.
Great work Drs. Andersen and Vore with educating our local community on the exciting careers of dentistry and instructing our youth on the importance of dental care!
